Re: Looks like Carolina affiliation about to happen

They've been slowly building a nice regional base there. They just got an ECHL team in South Carolina too. say what? greenville has had a team for 18 of the last 22 seasons (last 10 in a row) and the stingrays are going on year 28 of their franchise.....i'd say that a little more than slowly buildi...

Re: Looks like Carolina affiliation about to happen

It will be interesting to hear the story when it comes out of what happened between Carolina and Charlotte. They've been slowly building a nice regional base there. They just got an ECHL team in South Carolina too. The AHL team was successful too. There's obviously more to the story...and more than ...

Re: December 4 2020

Based on what?

None of us have any clue how our country will be with the virus this winter. I am very curious why December is too early but January will be ready to go...

Re: December 4 2020

Mike, agreed. The question is, since NHL teams will be footing the bill anyway, would they rather then be paying an AHL season (at extra pandemic cost) or keep prospects local with a taxi squad. THAT is the question. If the NHL wants to foot the bill, a season can happen with limited fans. But the A...

Re: December 4 2020

Yes, it can be done outdoors, in a tiny stadium, at an insanely low level of play, with basically no pay to the players, with no professional treatment. You can't compare an outdoors league of leftovers playing to hold off life for another summer and praying they get noticed to the indoor top develo...

Re: AHL officially cancelling season

True, but they don't need to have their prospects go to the AHL to play. It would be FAR cheaper for an NHL team to just participate in prospect tournaments. AHL staff and prospects stay in NHL city and practice at team facilities. Let's say this weekend the Blackhawks host a prospect tournament for...

Re: AHL officially cancelling season

Cheapseats, I think the NHL could survive...in the short term. One reason why I think they are so willing to go to Labor Day (or whenever) to finish this season is not just because the playoffs are so important, but also because they DON'T WANT to start next season in October. Let's just assume thin...

Re: AHL Shut Down???

Right.

This thread/discussion was people speculation from BEFORE the announcement. Once the announcement of cancelation came, the discussion moved over to that thread.

Re: AHL officially cancelling season

There is no way. Minor league teams struggle to be profitable as it is. Now, take away the crowds and they'll just bleed money. The question to me is what if most the league can have crowds...but some can't? But then again, that's probably irrelevant in the AHL because most of the league is in Calif...
