Does reassigned mean traded?

The Atlanta Thrashers have loaned defenseman MIKE VERNACE to the Hamilton Bulldogs and reassigned defenseman GRANT LEWIS to the Hershey Bears. In addition, the Montreal Canadiens have loaned left wing GREG STEWART to the Chicago Wolves.

They're still updating it. At first, the AHL listed it as an outright trade.

Clear day always confused me. Can a player in the NHL be added to clear day? Chelios for example? Also if he's assigned back to Wolves and wasn't on clear day can he able to play? And if ATL does assign him after the season is that ok b/c he's a vet?

I'll bet the kiddies in Rochester are going to be confused as to why Atlanta forgot about them...

I can understand why Lewis (occupying space on the scratch list) was loaned out, but why did Atlanta send Vernace to Hamilton??

Both going to teams that theoretically we'd have to go through on our way to the cup. Hmmm it would be just our luck to have them get hot just for us.

i wonder if this is an audition for a trade.....

And anybody can be on the clear day as long as they are eligible to play in the AHL and you do not have to be on the clear day to play, hence the mysterious "upper body injury" bug the Wolves get every couple of years.....

Although playing better Vernace is not a great loss. Lewis can be one of our best D men when he is healthy but we have not seen that this year.

The fact that the Wolves have added 2 forwards make me concerned that Sterling is worse than we hope.

Some tidbits for everyone: (all the following info comes from a VERY reliable source...the guys themselves)

Oystie is getting the wires out in 7-10 days and is planning to be back for the April 1 roadtrip.

Hotwaffles has just started skating ... looking at a week or 2.

Sterling is hoping for a return during the last week of the regular season...as long as there is no setback.

I think Chelios would be okay coming back.

The way I understand it is the Clear Day usually doesn't mean much because there's always some crazy loophole that teams can use to get what they want. ;) I always think of it as the "rough draft" to the somewhat hopefully solidified/consistent playoff roster.

I am so confused - did we GET anything here or were we just giving players away? And why in God's name are we giving players to teams we will most likely see in the playoffs? Oh, right, we are getting a reject Canadians' thug....just what we need. Why am I all of a sudden not feeling good about the future? :banghead:

Before you shit all over the trade, consider the "reject" played for Don Lever in Hamilton. Pretty good chance Don asked for him.

Personally, I never saw anything in Lewis that impressed me....just another one in a long line of players who's personality was mistaken for skill (Lavallee, Desbiens, Deveaux.....)

We'll see what the future holds.

Seems like ATL just wants their guys to play.... and since the Wolves have a log jam at D makes sense to send them somewhere... plus these seem like guys someone would want.

You can only have 22 players on the clear day roster. These 22 are the "official" players you must use for the remainder of the season and the postseason.

While you can generally dress other guys to fill in, there are some weird rules that I fully don't understand... something about if you still have X amount of healthy guys on on the clear day roster you can't have fill-ins? Some funky rule like that affected the Admirals tonight. We only played 17 skaters because the only other guy on the roster who was in the arena and was healthy wasn't on the clear day roster... I don't know if this is the correct rule or not, I'm just relaying info I heard... anyone have the official rules for clear day rosters?

Per the AHL website http://theahl.com/clear-day-lists-comin ... ay-p141305

Only those players listed on a team’s Clear Day roster are eligible to compete in the remainder of the AHL regular season and in the 2010 Calder Cup Playoffs, unless emergency conditions arise as a result of recall, injury or suspension.

Teams may also add signed junior players or players on amateur tryout contracts after Clear Day, but only once their respective junior or college seasons are complete.

So, if Milwaukee dressed only 17, it had nothing to do with the clear day roster.

Clear Day is just a guidline, every year there are mysterious injuries that happen & all of a sudden a player is inserted into the lineup, I wouldn't get too excited about that list at all.

Not sure why Chelios isn't listed on that roster above, but Ben over at the Thrashers team blog said he is on our clear day roster.
